Thoughts on Guilty Pleasure

I realize that this speculation might come across as over analytical but well, I do tend to over analyze things so you have my apologies for that.

The fandom has been in a panic since Guilty Pleasures promo came out with a part of the Blam scene that sounded like Blaine was asking Sam if he has feelings for him. Okay, let's all agree that Ryan Murphy's hobby is to troll the fandom and drive us all nuts. I think he's trying to jerk our chains in cutting the scenes in a way that makes it sound like there are "feelings" between Sam and Blaine, be them one sided or not.

In the promo, there is a pause in Blaine's sentence, between "you have" and "feelings for me", and it sounds like it might be different sentences, cut out of context to scare us. This is probably the crush talk part and how is it that we go from Blaine crushing on Sam in the past to asking if Sam has feelings for him? Blaine is over the crush, that was made clear in I Do when he was talking about how he and Kurt are gonna end up together. So why on earth would he ask about Sam's feelings for him?

The way I see it, this part could have two logical explanations:
  • They discuss the crush and Blaine asks if the crush changes the way Sam feels about him, in fear that his friend will be upset\weirded out or something, or Blaine can be explaining where he was emotionally when he had the crush. The point is it'll be in the middle of a discussion.
  • Or they will be talking about Kurt. There is a Klaine subtext in the episode, if the macaroni art and Against All Odds are any indication. Blaine could be telling Sam about their situation and wondering if Kurt still has feelings for him. I'm really leaning hoping towards this for some reason. Maybe because the look on Sam's face right after Blaine finishes his 'question' is the same one he had when Blaine was telling him about the cheating in Dynamic Duets. I may have dubbed this look as 'Sam's face when faced with a complicated Klaine situation'.
The other cause for panic was Against All Odds which some people interpreted as being addressed to Sam. Um, what? Just because Chord tweeted about being there doesn't mean that Blaine is suddenly singing it to Sam. I absolutely think that Blam will discuss Klaine ( Can't really believe that Sam making macaroni art of Kurt won't lead to that sort of discussion). Again, it could go two ways. Blaine could start to lose hope of reconciliation with Kurt and Sam steps in to tell him not to give up, or Sam will talk to Blaine about letting go of Kurt, something along the lines of "if you love someone, set him free" ( but Blaine won't be able to do it, judging from the last line of AAO). Both ideas explain why Sam was there during Against All Odds and it actually adds up to the narrative. But please, don't try to convince me that AAO is about Sam because it basically screams Kurt. And let's not forget that Blaine knows nothing about CWM or Kurt's talk with Adam, the only thing he knows is that Kurt kept insisting that they were just friends so maybe he'll start to believe that this is how Kurt feels for him.

AAO conveys both hope and despair at the same time which is what Blaine is feeling right now. He is in-between, forced to face the possibility that Kurt might not take him back but unable to let go of the love of his life. He's singing his heartache and devotion in one song. He is hung up on Kurt and he knows that but he can't stop himself. The setting and decor of the song also points to that direction. The lights that are making heart shapes on the curtains, the red warm light behind Blaine, the stage that is half lit, half dark, all of it creates a perfect harmony between the two emotions that are tearing Blaine apart and it reflects the lyrics of the song perfectly. Also, doing the song live indicates a powerful emotion that the show wants us to feel and that was reinforced through Darren's heartfelt rendition of the song. The only time they did this was Teenage Dream and that was one hell of a performance, who else would make Blaine so emotional that he'll lay his soul bare like this besides Kurt?
